So Cindy McCain. She's totally the Cryptkeeper, right? I honestly don't dislike her or anything, but every time I look at her all I can see is the outline of her skull and those icy blue eyes. Which = cryptkeeper to me.

I had a lovely 4th of July weekend, visiting with [info]makesmewannadie , having a party, setting off fireworks (no injuries, yay!), and eating way too many calories.  The only bummer is that the Daisy dog got sick on Saturday and we spent the rest of the weekend cleaning up. I'll spare you the details, but my carpet will never be the same. *sigh*

I have a lot of really stupid things to do at work right now and all I want to do is go home and cuddle my puppy.

p.s. Is anyone else having problems with the Rich Text editor link creator when you post online?

In an ill-advised fit of nostalgia, I bought the OBC soundtrack of 42nd Street. My high school produced the musical and I was in it and it was good times so I thought, why not? NOW I KNOW WHY NOT. Omg, I've had "Shuffle Off to Buffalo" stuck in my head for DAYS. Someone please kill me.

I don't think we got that house we put an offer on. There's another bidder who keeps raising their offer and we're not going to play that game. So the search continues. I think we'll have to go out this weekend and start trawling neighborhoods again. It's actually quite a bit of work to look for a house. Especially since what we really want is out of our price range, haha. Oh well. It's not something I can legitimately complain about too much, you know?

I'm excited for this weekend. 4th of July is my husband's favorite holiday and fireworks are legal in our city (uncommon for OC, and California in general). He's already been cruising the fireworks stands and getting his shopping list together. Also, [info]makesmewannadie is coming down and staying for the weekend with me. \o/ I wonder how her toddler (and my puppy) will react to all the loud festivities that night. With a mixture of alarm and glee, I imagine. We'll see.

Oh no. No, no, no, no. I absolutely love The Terminator franchise, and I absolutely LOATHE Helena Bonham Carter. Just looking at her face makes me angry. Seriously, I have no idea why, but I hate her more than any other actor I can think of. If she's in the T4 movie I will be so fucking irritated.

In better news, I finally saw Iron Man this weekend. (Hey, I'm only about two months behind.) I really liked it, and now that I've seen it I can finally read all the fic that keeps cropping up on my FL. \o/  And I have to admit I'm pretty surprised at all the people who saw Wall-E this weekend and loved it. I saw the previews about four times in the theater and it looked awful. Totally disjointed and with no clear plot or theme whatsoever. I guess I'm going to have to get over myself the previews and go see it.

chx: knit chicken
I woke up in the WORST mood today and it must be because I'm psychic--nearly everything about today has sucked, especially work-wise. I think I'm going to start seriously looking for another job. I say that about every 3 months, but still. I've now been here two years and a) I'm kind of bored, and b) I'm kind of over working for a small company. We'll see how it goes. Anyone want to hire a graphic designer?

In better (but still slightly cranky) news, I've started knitting my first pair of socks. I hate knitting in the round on double pointed needles, and it's been approximately forever since I've done it last. I had to cast on EIGHT times to get the hang of it again, only to realize that my sock was much, much too wide and veering into leg-warmer territory. :X I've started again and hopefully it will be actually sock-sized this time. I think I'm good for now, but when I have to make the heel things may fall apart again.

I'm already halfway through season 2 of Bones and I keep trying to guess who it is that made half my FL go, "OMG BONES!!" at the season 3 finale. The anticipation is kind of awesome.

I am mainlining Bones episodes like crazy. I don't know why, exactly (other than the hotness and cuteness and dorkiness). I usually have a hard time watching seasons of a show all at once (see my recent abandonment of Boston Legal). But I'm home sick from work today and I'm out of Netflix Bones DVDs and hulu.com doesn't have any season 2 eps so I'm downloading a few from iTunes. I tried to poke around to see if there were any Bones download communities on LJ, but a search for "bones" as an interest only got me a metric ton of pro-anorexia communities. :X

Anyway, if there's a download place for Bones that anyone knows of, give me a holler.

Today is likely to be a day of great stress. It is a major work deadline, we are probably hearing whether our offer has been accepted on the house, and we are having a dining room table, six chairs, and an organ (yes, the musical instrument *headdesk*) delivered to our rental house this afternoon. My aunt and uncle are moving out of their large-ish house in Monterey to a smaller one and they're getting rid of a lot of furniture. I've always loved their table--it's a big old European farmhouse table, and I used to joke with my aunt that if she ever didn't want it anymore I'd be first in line to take it off her hands. And voila! The downside being, of course, that we have nowhere to put it for now, so it is going in the garage and we will have to park outside until we leave for larger quarters. Oh, and the organ. God. It's a family heirloom, a small reed organ that used to be in our family cabin when I was a kid. My aunt took it after her parents died and had it restored and blah blah blah. She asked me if I wanted it and I expressed a minute amount of interest and next thing I knew it was on the truck with the table. *sigh* I can't complain too much though--I really do love that table. :)

In less stressful news, I am just finishing up the first season of Bones and I totally love it. I can see why it's such a fandom show, since it's so heavy on the relationships. I was poking around last night for some fic and came across a huge recs page...of mostly gen stories and case files. What?! I'm sorry, but no. The last thing I'm reading in Bones is GEN FIC. The show taunts me enough.

ALSO. Today is the first day same-sex couples can get a marriage license in California. I ♥ my state right now.

I know I ask this a lot, but what did she do to her face omg? Brittany Murphy used to be so cute. Now she looks like some washed up old hag trying desperately to hang on to her youth. SHE IS ONLY 30. It's weird how plastic surgery can make people look older.

I started watching Bones last week. I've only seen the first disc of the first season but already there have been episodes about Muslim terrorists, pregnant interns killed by congressional aides, murderous cannibals, and (my favorite) a prep school sex tape extortion murder/suicide.

0.o

I can see why fandom loves this show though--it's all about the relationships. Also, David Boreanaz has very nice shoulders.

My best friend from high school emailed me last week to let me know she'd be in town and wondered if we could get together. Do you ever have those people in your life that you love dearly but that you just can't seem to keep in touch with, mostly because you have nothing in common anymore? Yeah. I saw her yesterday and while it's still easy to talk to her and she's an awesome person I just can't imagine we'd be able to have more than 3 conversations a year. She was shocked (SHOCKED!) to learn that I've never seen an episode of Sex and the City or American Idol or Desperate Housewives ("What do you DO? What TV do  you WATCH?"). Argh. If only I could tell her that I mostly watch TV so that I can read gay porn about the characters. *g* Anyway, she's in the process of leaving her loser husband, which I applaud, but they have a 4 year old son, so that kind of sucks. Who knows, maybe we'll be closer after that all goes through and she has to have a life outside of her marriage again.

And speaking of blasts from the past, I was redoing my home filing system today and I came across a bunch of emails from an old college friend/flame. I'd printed them out (hey, it was 1998) and stuffed them in my "Misc." folder. He and I had sort of an on again/off again flirtation that we both thought might go somewhere more serious someday. Alas, he's Mormon and I'm not, so that was never going to happen. He wrote me a bunch while he was on his mission and wow, the maudlin and dramatic things we said! I think we both watched too much Melrose Place and Dawson's Creek. And I'm not exaggerating--we actually used the Billy/Alison and Dawson/Joey relationships as analogies for our own. :X I'm torn between wanting to toss them like the rubbish they are and wanting to keep them for the ego boost they provide when I read them. He was so enamored of me! Ah, to be cute and 21 again. ;)

I spent the weekend at [info]saturn92103 's house with [info]anamchara , [info]lilysaid , [info]carta ,  [info]kiffle, and [info]halowrites (via stargate phone) and it was just as fabulous as I hoped it would be when we made our plans months ago. We spent time admiring Joe Flanigan and Paul Gross, ran/walked a 5k, gossiped about everything under the sun, told epic Mary Sue stories, looked at 600 pictures of Sally, decided we liked the Simpson/Wentz wedding, and played endless rounds of Spoons (injury total: a bleeding scratch on the hand and two broken fingernails [and that was just me]). I hope it is not too long before we all see each other again! ♥

Is Something Corporate a bandom band? The name sounds vaguely familiar to me and I can only think that I've heard it on LJ somewhere before. I sat amidst a few guys from that band on my flight home from Detroit today and their road manager gently snored in my ear for almost the whole 5 hours. :X

My new favorite thing, possibly ever. TEAL: Typo Eradication Advancement League. These are my kind of people. ♥ They had a Typo Hunt Across America that yielded some fabulous results. I love that they're actually getting people to fix their typos. I nearly had an aneurysm at Home Depot last week when I saw a bunch of posters for some "Silhouette Patio Furniture" and silhouette was misspelled in all the handwritten signs. Then I nearly ran my cart into the man in front of me in line when I read a chalk sign that said, "Buy a plant and a container and well pot it for you."

Huh. Lou Pearlman was sentenced to 25 years in prison for conspiracy, money laundering, and falsely declaring bankruptcy. I'm sure there are a LOT of other things he could have been sent to jail for (ew, ew, ew), but it warms the cockles of my heart to know that he'll be in jail.

And in even better news, my Dancing WIth the Stars recording miraculously reappeared on my DVR last night! So I got to watch the dancing and then the elimination show. Lots of fun, and the right person totally won.

I started Week 4 of my Couch to 5K running program last night. I thought it was going to be awful because I really struggled with Week 3, but it actually wasn't that bad at all. I think I'm finally hitting my stride--my shins weren't screaming in agony yesterday as I was running, I wasn't mentally pleading for the interval to be over, and I'm not really sore today. You know that point you hit during an exercise regimen where you feel like you can just keep going? I'm not anywhere near that yet, but I did have a little taste of it yesterday. \o/

In less happy news, my *#&%$^%@! DVR decided to be an asshole again and ate my recording of Dancing With the Stars last night. I've watched this stupid show for 3 months now and I can't believe I missed the final fucking dance off omg. It had better be available online somewhere.

I've had 2 discs of Boston Legal sitting on top of my TV for a month now and I haven't been watching them. I only watched a season and a half, but I think I'm already burned out. Everything about that show is so over the top that it's maybe too much to watch in one huge chunk. Either that or I'm done (so, so done) with the trials that are supposed to show me how evil big corporations and the government are. Was David E. Kelly this annoyingly preachy with Ally McBeal? I can't remember.  Anyway, I think I'll return the discs for something else. Bones, maybe, or Torchwood.

narnia: 4 on the battlefield
I went to see Prince Caspian last night and I really enjoyed it. They added quite a bit of stuff that wasn't in the book, but I thought it worked well. And oh my, those Sons of Adam are so so pretty. I fail to understand why there isn't a bigger fandom for the Narnia movieverse. So much potential! I have to say that before I read a bunch of Supernatural stories I probably wouldn't have given much thought to incest fic, but now that I have I wonder why it's not more prominent. Anyway, I went looking for Narnia stories last night and came up pretty empty handed, woe.

Aw, yay California!

"Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," Chief Justice Ron George wrote for the court's majority.

as seen in the journal of [info]halowrites:

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick four/five of your userpics.
2. Make a post and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon fabulousness.

Anyone else?

I didn't get to go running yesterday and won't get to go tonight, so I brought my running gear to work today, thinking I might go this afternoon. I still might. This is weirdly dedicated for me to be with exercise. Normally if there's an excuse to skip it, I'll take it. But since I'll be running with some friends on Memorial Day, the pressure is on! It's good for me though. *g*

I'm driving my mom's BMW today and I looooooove it. I like to drive fast and that car makes it so (too) easy. I'd love it even more if I wasn't driving it because my old Jeep is in the shop getting new brakes (and probably rotors). Boo. I'm sure it's going to be ridiculously expensive. I hate getting work done on my car. I don't even care about the money (well, I do care, but it's a secondary concern) but having to deal with mechanics always makes me feel stupid and unknowledgable and I hate feeling that way. I may also be scarred from Wrangler I had in college that was constantly in and out of the shop after it CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. It was never the same after that and neither am I, apparently. :X

I'm taking the notary class/exam this Saturday so that I can sign stuff for my mother in law's company. It sounds a lot like traffic school (with which I may have more than a passing familiarity). I have to be there from 7:30 in the morning until 4:30 and if I'm more than 10 minutes late they lock the doors and I have to pay another $100 to take another class. I also have to have a photo taken and a live scan of my fingerprints taken. Seems kind of complicated for a job that involves watching other people sign stuff. Actually I'm sure there's more to it than that, but the whole thing sounds like kind of a racket to me.

My husband went to see Mudcrutch play at the Troubador in Hollywood tonight. AKA Tom Petty and some Heartbreakers! Very cool, he even sent me a picture. I, meanwhile, watched Def Leppard lipsynch (very badly) on Dancing with the Stars. WTF was up with that? My jr high self would have been shocked, while my current self is just mildly annoyed. Why does no one want to sing live on these things? It's not like people are tuning in for Def Leppard's good looks. :X

I just read Theory of Everything by [info]rheanna27. Such a great McKay/Sheppard story! I love fan fic that feels like it could have really been an episode of the show. You know, if the Sci-Fi Channel believed in a lot of gay sex.

p.s. I've been getting all my fic recs lately from [info]saturn92103's recs page, moonshot. If you like SGA, SG-1, SPN, J2, Torchwood, BSG or HP, check out her site. Very well organized and only high-quality stuff! <3
